Basketball at Loughborough has developed significantly over the past five years and is quickly becoming one of the leading programmes within men’s basketball in the UK. We cater for a wide range of abilities, and everyone is welcome.

Performance Overview

Our elite club team competes in the British Universities and Colleges (BUCS) Premier competition and we have a further three teams playing in various BUCS leagues. We also offer a less competitive team that caters for all abilities, whether you just want to have fun and learn some new skills in a relaxed, friendly environment, or if you just want to meet some new people, then the development team is perfect.

The Men’s performance basketball programme hold back-to-back BUCS (British University and College Sports) titles in 2016 and 2017 whilst competing as the Loughborough Student Riders in NBL (National Basketball League) Division One for the past two seasons, reaching the Play-Off Final in their first year in 2017.

Scholarship Information

We are looking for postgraduate student athletes who can add value to our performance programmes, and compete for Loughborough University in the British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) competition. Our International Sports Student Postgraduate Bursary is a 40% reduction in tuition fees, which have a value of around £8,000 (set against the tuition fees of your chosen postgraduate taught programme ONLY). The bursaries are for those competing at a high level in sport, are funded by Loughborough University and are for self-funding students. The deadline for applications is 23 May 2025. All applications will be reviewed after this date, and you will be contacted regarding the outcome by 20 June 2025.
